How the program works

Meet 1:1 with a selected student at school during school hours in small volunteer teams.

Reading sessions last up to 30 minutes. Books and learning materials are provided.

The process to get started

Meet the Requirements

You must be at least 16 years old (18 for some schools), able to make weekly time commitment, and live within reasonable commuting range to one of our partner schools or programs.

Fill out the application and the Volunteer Coordinator closest to your location will contact you within 3-5 business days.

Complete a Background Check

Your Volunteer Coordinator will let you know what type of background check will be needed based on the district requirements.

Complete our 'New Volunteer' Training

Training is approximately 90 minutes and will cover your crucial role as a Reading Mentor.

Match with a Student

We will match you with a student who has been referred by their teacher.

Begin Reading!

We'll coordinate with your schedule for a weekly commitment, mentoring the same student consistently to enhance their literacy skills. You'll be part of a small volunteer team of mentors who are making a significant impact.
